Proverbs 3:6
KEYS TO SUCCESS -
One of the keys to being successful in our everyday lives is to—
Seek His will in all you do,
and He will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3: 6 (NLT)
But how do we do that?
First, clear your head of thoughts that hold you captive, like “It’s going to be too hard” or “I am not spiritual enough to receive direction from God.”
I want to encourage you with this. God speaks to me as if I were a fifth grader — with simple instructions that I can quickly understand and put into action. I like that because if a fifth grader can grasp His will, so can I.
Since I discovered the Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC) promise, I have learned that God wants to simplify our lives. He wants us to be able to recognize those thoughts that just happened to dawn on us. Then we truly know it was Him causing our thoughts to change and become aligned with His will.
My good friend told me that her daughter is making a move from Washington D.C. to the midwest. Her daughter has been getting ahold of the “30-Second Prayer,” and while she was making plans, this thought occurred to her: “I should get rid of everything in my apartment except what I can get in my car. Then I can buy what I need when I get there.” It seemed right to her since she will be living with her parents for a few months until she finds an apartment. Do you see how that simplified her life? Money-wise, it also makes sense for her.
God wants to take those things that overwhelm us and simplify them so we can quickly and easily get the job done. He daily does this for me, and I am so very grateful!
So let’s get started!
- Begin by reading this promise:
Roll your works upon the Lord[commit and trust them wholly to Him;
He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will,
and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC)
- Next, make a list of what you want to accomplish today. If you have an aversion to writing things down, “list” in your mind the three most important things you want to do today.
- Then turn our Proverbs 16:3 promise into our “30-Second Prayer:"
Father, I commit my plans to You.
Cause me to think the way You think—
So I know what to do.
See how easy that is to remember?
- Now set out to accomplish the first thing on your list. If you run into a snag, stop and pray, “Father, help me to think the way you think, so I know what to do.”
As you walk through your day be mindful of the Holy Spirit of God walking with you. Talk to Him like you would a very wise and wonderful friend. I think you will be amazed at His willingness to cause you think like He thinks so you can be successful. He wants to organize your thoughts so you can accomplish your plans, saving you time, and yes, even saving you money!
God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise,
and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship
and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
