UNPACKING THE PROMISE
If I took the time to go back through my journals, I would be able to determine what year it was that I saw our Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC) promise. When I first read it, I remember thinking, “Whoa, this is powerful! Can we actually think the thoughts of God?”
The phrase that jumped out at me was, “He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will….” Think about it! He will tell us what we need to know when we need to know it.
But hold on — there is more. This powerful promise comes with a condition. Allow me to unpack it for you. In the Amplified Bible, Classic Edition, there are three distinct parts.
- THE DIRECTION:
“Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him….”
- THE PROMISE:
“He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will….”
- THE RESULT: “…..and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
When we commit our works (our plans, our concerns, our decisions) to the Lord at the beginning of the day, He will cause our thoughts to align with His will, and the result is that we will experience success.
When I discovered this promise, I decided to put it to test. If you want a deeper understanding of this promise, I encourage you to do the same.
Here’s how:
- For the next seven days, begin your day by praying this “The 30-Second Prayer”:
Father, I commit my plans to You.
Cause me to think the way You think—
So I know what to do.
- During you day, if you come upon something that you are not sure of, STOP and say, “Father I commit this to You. Cause my thoughts to align with Your will, so I know what to do.”
- Then proceed through the day, reminding yourself that you’ve turned the situation over to God and there is no need to worry because He is a faithful Father.
As you practice applying Proverbs 16:3, feel free to start out with something simple. I began by making a “To-Do” list and submitting it to God. He proceeded to use the opportunity I gave Him to prove the validity of His promise. I believe He will do the same for you. God often times awaits our request for His involvement before He aligns our thoughts with His will. When it happens, you might even catch yourself saying, “Where did that come from??”
You may choose when to begin your seven days — and if you miss a day, keep right on until you complete seven. If God gives you a thought that you know was not your own, jot it down, and let me know about it by contacting me at: https://www.the30secondprayer.com/contact
I will be waiting to hear from you so we can rejoice together!
