A GOOD FATHER

We are learning about the true nature of our Heavenly Father. He’s loving, kind, patient — and He’s interested in each one of us. Let’s take a look at some scriptural truths that confirm the goodness of God. [NOTE: Today I am using The Message Bible, which is a paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation. I like to read The Message Bible alongside a translation for a greater understanding of the scriptures.]
So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course.
Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven.
The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light.
There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle.
He brought us to life using the true Word,
showing us off as the crown of all His creatures.
James 1:17-18 The Message (MSG)
This is how much God loved the world:
He gave his Son, His one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed;
by believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t
go to all the trouble of sending His Son merely to point an accusing finger,
telling the world how bad it was.
He came to help, to put the world right again.

God is sheer mercy and grace;
not easily angered, He’s rich in love.
Psalms 103:8 The Message (MSG)
These are just three of many scriptures that speak of God’s attributes. Because of some of our experiences in life, it may have been easy to develop a theology of an uncaring God who is preoccupied, judgmental, and angry — or in a God who is holding out on us so He can teach us something. On the contrary, God is constantly instructing us in His Word and that is the best way to learn. As we read the Bible — especially the Gospels — we will see that Jesus demonstrated the true nature and will of God. Whatever Jesus said or did in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John is the truth about our Heavenly Father.
For me, it is very simple. “God is good and good is what He does!”
You are good, and the source of good;
train me in your goodness.

When things feel overwhelming, peace has to be a choice. God offers us a peace that settles our hearts and shapes how we treat others. ‘ Peace on earth, goodwill to men ’ is a reminder to let that peace live in us—and move through us.
