Day 11---Facing Our First Holiday

This is Easter weekend and maybe you are feeling a little down about not being able to get together with your family and/or friends. This is our first (and hopefully our last) holiday during this self-distancing season and it seems a little strange. We may have to dig a little deeper into our “creativity” bucket to find the thing that will help us feel like we are not alone.
I have a good friend who was on Facebook and spotted a baker who is making sugar cookie kits. You get a dozen pre-made sugar cookies, various colors of frosting and a container of sprinkles. The baker said she was overrun with orders and is making tons of deliveries this weekend. Such a great idea! Her grandsons will love the surprise!
Of course, we have Face Time, Zoom, Skype, our Marco Polo app, etc. They all help tremendously. The Marco Polo app has been a lifesaver for me! If you have not heard of it, the simple explanation is that it’s like a video text. When you set it up, you invite some of your contacts to download the app so they can receive a video from you. At your convenience, click on the person you want to talk to and make them a little video. It goes to them and they can watch it at their convenience. I even set up a group so I can talk to all seven of my grandkids at once.
Another one of my coping mechanisms is to look beyond my present circumstances. This last year if I had something directly in front of me that I dreaded, I would look beyond and say, “Next week at this time….” or “Tomorrow at this time…….” And sure enough, before I knew it the circumstance or the task was over, and I was beyond it!
I think we should all plan a celebration—whether it be with family or friends. Consider all the arrangements and even the date you’d think it could happen. If you have to postpone it, at least your guest list and all your details will be in place. Maybe it could be called your “Coming Out Celebration!”
