The holidays can be a time when we say, “I am going to eat whatever I want. After the first of the year, I will go on a diet.” I can relate to that mindset. I have dragged my sluggish body from Christmas to New Year’s with regrets screaming in my ears! “Why did I do that? Why did I overeat? Why didn’t I continue to exercise? Why did I let myself take on stress?”
The leftovers are gone and the treadmill is “crickets.” The holidays have come to an end and I am feeling miserable about the choices I made. Have you ever felt like this?
When God gave me the idea for this Blog Challenge, He was basically saying, “Here, let Me help you with the holidays this year.” As we look to Him as our spiritual Life Coach, He will help us make healthy choices each day—the ones we will feel good about on January 1st.
Our foundational promise says, “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him….”
One of the Greek meanings for “works” is the things you need to do. (Strong’s Concordance #04639)
That certainly includes our eating, hydrating, exercising, sleeping. As we submit our plans—the things we need to do—to our Life Coach, He will advise us in a way that will keep all aspects of our lives in balance and functioning well.
Thanksgiving is just a few days away. How do you want to feel after the weekend has come and gone? Tired? Upset? Frustrated? I am pretty sure that’s not what God had in mind for Thanksgiving.
This year let’s invite God into the middle of all our decisions by praying this powerful little prayer—
Come, Lord Jesus—be my guest.
Come and do what You do best.
What does He do best? He causes our “thoughts to become agreeable to His will”
so that we can be established and succeed. (Proverbs 16:3b AMPC) Then, instead of regrets, we can say—
With God’s help, this has been an amazing holiday!
