LIVING THE GOOD LIFE

In my last post, I talked about the importance of having an intimate relationship with God. Relationships take time to develop, so the first thing that we need to do is set aside that time. Whenever we decide to be more intentional, we must designate a certain amount of time to pursue it.
The common thread through all of my blog posts has been about having a meeting with God at the beginning of the day. This meeting can take place while you are still dressed in your jammies, on your commute to work, or even at a makeshift desk adjacent to your laundry area. You choose the time with the least amount of distractions — and also the place that provides the least amount of interruptions.
Begin your meeting with our 30 Second Prayer:
Father, I commit my plans to You.
Cause me to think the way you think—
So I know what to do.

If you are at a place where you can make a list, begin to do so. Write down a few things that are important to accomplish. They do not have to be work-related. When was the last time you played with your kids, took your wife out to dinner, or called your mom or dad for a phone chat? These are the kinds of things that you don’t do every day but they should be sprinkled in amongst the things on your “To Do” list. When I commit everything to God, He has a way of arranging things in a workable order so they come together effortlessly. When I evaluate the day, I am amazed at how much I accomplished.
You might say, good for you, Karol, but is this all about you? Thirty-nine years ago, I committed my entire life to Christ. I was “done” with living life for myself. On that memorable Sunday morning in 1982, I made a quality decision and invited Jesus to be my Savior and Lord. Now all these years later God is revealing to me that He wants to spend each day
with us. (Can you imagine??)
If we invite God into our day, He will make us aware of His presence. He will line up our thoughts according to His will and if we follow His lead, we will enjoy success. That’s when you won’t be able to contain your gratitude. I found myself thanking Him for every little (and big) thing that worked out well.
Spending the day in partnership with God will cause you to accomplish the important things and have room left over for the “extras” that you enjoy. Your priorities will be straight and you won’t end the day with the burden of regrets.
So where are you going to have your meeting with God tomorrow?? And what time is that meeting? I guarantee that a day started that way will be a day well spent.
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship),
recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them
[living the good life which He prearranged
and made ready for us to live].

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone. Sometimes we need to refresh the screen of our hearts to see clearly again. When we lay down our own plans and fully trust God, our vision begins to change. Beginning the day with God puts us in a posture of surrender. We release our plans, seek His wisdom, and step into the peace that comes from trusting His direction.
