Several years ago, I discovered a promise from God’s Word that made me marvel at His goodness towards His people. This promise has the potential to cause us to be successful in every area of our lives:
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him;
He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will,
and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC)
God wants all of our plans to succeed—and they will if we commit them to Him and trust Him for His guidance. He says that “He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will.”
Amazing! We can actually think as He thinks. I have applied this promise to my life for several years, and I am amazed at what God has shown me. Of course, I must do my part—commit and trust my plans wholly to Him. That didn’t come naturally at first, but the more I did it, the more success I experienced.
We are going to take our Proverb’s promise into the lab and experiment with it to see if we understand what God is saying. Here’s your assignment:
- Make a healthy plan for yourself.
- Submit your plans to God in prayer.
- Ask Him to cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will.
- Begin following the plan—making adjustments as He gives you ideas.
- Thank Him for those ideas.

When we talk to God about our concern, the Bible says we can expect that God will cause our thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and then we’ll know what to do. It’s not as hard as we think. As we spend time with God, it will become our key to success.
