THE GOODNESS OF GOD

Last week I explained to you my interpretation of the word “synergy.” To me, it means, “Everything working together for good.” I instructed you to evaluate what you spend your time doing and eliminating those unimportant activities to make room for those things that matter.
Today we are going to take the same concept but instead of evaluating our “time,” we are going to look at our beliefs. What is it that you believe to be true? Let’s be more specific and ask, “What is it that you believe about God?” Is God good or are there times when He creates bad circumstances in our lives in hopes that we will come closer to Him?
If we have not clarified the answers to this question, our spiritual foundation will be wobbly. We will always wonder what happened and why it happened. Instead of stressing ourselves out over these questions, we will know exactly what we believe and go right to it.
Instead of saying, “Why did God do that to me?” or “Where was God? Why didn’t He help me?” we will say, “God, I know you are a good Father and You are not the author of this circumstance, so what actually happened here?” It has been my experience that God is always willing to explain if I legitimately want to know the truth and do not come at Him with accusations and anger.
To stabilize our beliefs on a sure foundation, we need to look to the truth in the Word of God. First of all, allow me to share with you a very foundational truth.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy. I have come that they may have life,
and that they may have it more abundantly.
John 10:10 (NKJV)
This is just one of the many truths that substantiate that God is good. Be sure to read all of the tenth chapter of John. Also, consider these:
Ephesians 3:17-19 (NLT) “…made complete in the fullness of life…”
Psalms 119: 73-77 (NLT) “May Your unfailing love be my comfort.”
Romans 8: 28-39 (NLT) “…He did not spare even His own Son, but gave him up for us…”
If you still are not convinced in the goodness
of God, I suggest you read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to discover the character of God played out in real-time. Also, I encourage you to pray, “Father, cause my thoughts to become agreeable to Your will so that I know the truth concerning your character.”

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone.
