UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES
When someone asks, “How are you?” Do you answer, “I am doing well, under the circumstances?”
Maybe we have all replied that way at some time in our lives. Situations arise that make us feel stuck under the circumstances of our lives.
So who do we turn to for help? You probably can guess what I am going to say. “God”, of course — and by praying “the 30-Second Prayer,” of course!
Father, I commit this circumstance to You.
Cause me to think the way You think —
So I know what to do.
God’s not one bit down about our dilemma because He has the solution! As we invite Him to give us His instructions, He is more than happy to do so. When we pray this short and very powerful prayer, our thoughts become aligned with His will. No longer are we under our circumstances, but now we are standing right beside God, waiting for the solution. God’s instructions come in the form of thoughts that He places within us. We might even think it’s our own thought until we realize that it wasn’t.
One day when I felt like my circumstances were too big for me, I asked God what to do. Almost immediately I had a thought I did not think, “Praise Me for all that I have done for you.” Simple enough!
“God, You’ve forgiven me, healed me, redeemed me, crowned me with Your love and tender mercy. You’ve filled my life with good things.” (Psalms 103:1-5)
“You give me Your joy which strengthens me and Your peace which guards my heart and my mind.” (Nehemiah 8:10, Philippians 4:7)
“You give me strength for each day of my life. I am secure in You.” (Deuteronomy 33:25)
“You meet all of my needs.” (Philippians 4:7)
“You level the mountains and make the crooked places straight for me.” (Isaiah 45:2)
“You’ve made me the head and not the tail. I am above and not beneath.” (Deuteronomy 28:13)
After doing as God instructed, I was no longer under my circumstances. Instead, all oppression and heaviness left me and I was ready to move forward.
Do you have any circumstances that are pressing down upon you right now? If so, you may borrow my statements of thanksgiving above — or come up with your own — so that together we can rise up and know that nothing is impossible when we are submitted and committed to God.
