Picture this for a moment. You are the CEO of a company, and one of your employees comes to you for advice. You listen intently and then respond with wise direction. You, as the head, hold the big picture and know how to proceed efficiently and effectively to make the employee and the company a success.
Let’s look at this in spiritual terms. God designed each of us to fit and operate within the framework of His vision for us. When we flow with His plans, things go well. However, He did not design us to be His robots; instead, He gave us a free will so we could choose to follow His instructions — or not.
We’ve all heard and maybe even used the phrase, “agree to disagree.” This concept works well when we want to avoid conflict. But what would happen if we “agreed to agree?” Let me explain.
The Bible says that God has a good plan for us. He wants to prosper us and protect us from harm. (Jeremiah 29:11) These plans were recorded in a book before we were born. (Psalms 139:16) And through this study of “The 30 Second Prayer,” we are learning about God’s willingness to instruct us along straight paths. (Proverbs 4:11) He knows the best way to get from where we are to where we need to be — successfully. So it would be in our best interest to follow Him.
So how do we do that?
- First, we “agree to agree” with God because we trust His wisdom and goodness. (Jeremiah 32:38-39 NLT)
- Secondly, we ask Him to cause our thoughts to become agreeable to His will. (Proverbs 16:3 AMPC)
- Lastly, we demonstrate our trust in Him by thanking Him for a successful outcome. (Proverbs 3: 5-6 NLT)
As we do these three things, I think you will be amazed at how quickly the direction comes and how successful we are -- when it does!
