Last week my daughter suggested that we make a trip to the apple orchard to pick apples because the kids had a day off school. There are several orchards in the area but the one we were most familiar with is about 45 minutes south of us.
This being an unusual year, I decided to go online to see if the orchard was open. They were open and the event calendar said that there would be “apple picking” available on the day we wanted to come. As it got closer to the date, I began to wonder if I should check again but I kept putting it off. Finally, I checked because I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I went to the event calendar and it said there was “no apple-picking” for the entire week, due to the fact the trees were not currently producing apples.
After this discovery, I called an orchard north of us. They were open, their gift shop was open, and there were apples available for picking. It was a lovely drive, a fun time of picking apples and shopping in their gift area - and on the way home, we picked up food and found a beautiful park in which to eat. Everything that could have gone wrong that day—did not! In fact, everything went right!
This is an example of Proverbs 16:3 at work.
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him;
He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and]
so shall your plans be established and succeed.

God certainly caused my thoughts to become agreeable to His will by urging me to double-check the first orchard’s calendar. We were able to successfully make an alternative choice with no inconvenience whatsoever.
If Proverbs 16:3 can be applied to a simple thing like a day out with my children, it will also apply to business decisions, relationship decisions, financial decisions, etc.
We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps.

Let’s practice committing our plans to God each day so that when major life decisions come, we will automatically defer to Him and allow Him to guide our thoughts and actions into successful outcomes.
