AVOIDING DISAGREEMENTS

Would you like to reduce — or eliminate — the opportunity for disagreements with those closest to you? Of course, you would.
One of the benefits of applying the “30 Second Prayer” to our lives is that we can avoid opposing one another and instead come into a peaceful agreement.
Father, we commit this decision (situation, plan) to You.
Cause us to think the way You think—
So we know what to do.
(Based on Proverbs 16:3 AMPC)
If two people (your spouse, your grown child, your co-worker) would agree to let God lead, He would be more than happy to do so. We just need to do two things: (1) Not demand our
way and (2) invite God to become involved in the process.
My husband and I were very different personalities. He was a visionary and I was the one who carried out the vision step-by-step. We worked very well together when we chose to work together. It was when he was way ahead of me and I was lagging behind that tension would rise. After discovering the revelation of Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC), we were able to lay the situation down and wait until both of us were sure we were heading to a successful outcome.
Maybe you are thinking, “Oh my gosh — who has time for that??”
Dave and I discovered when we were willing to wait, the situation was resolved quickly. It’s when we wanted our way that the outcome was delayed. We also learned that it was possible to work together instead of resisting one another's ideas. As we respected our differences and allowed God to lead, everything flowed beautifully. We saw it work in our marriage, in our family, and in the workplace.
Many times Dave and I would say, “I just had a thought.” It’s then that we melded these “God thoughts” together so we could take the next step.
I do realize that it takes two
to make this work and that is not always the case. Here’s what to do:
- Pray the “30 Second Prayer” for yourself.
- Pray that both of you have eyes “focused and clear” so you can see exactly what it is God is calling you to do.” (Ephesians 1:18-19 MSG)
- Suggest to the other person that you take the time to discuss the options before you.
- Then give your “Helper,” the Holy Spirit a little time to help by suggesting that you take a little time to think about what route to go. (John 14:26 AMPC)
- While you are waiting, be the one to take the list of options before God and ask for His thoughts. At the end of my list, I also add “Other” so that God knew we were open to a new way of thinking — the one that leads to success!
The more you invite God to your planning and decision-making, the fewer disagreements you will have when working with others.
