Day 14—-Living On Purpose

For the last thirteen days, we have been talking about how to successfully maneuver through this time of self-quarantine and social distancing. The days can be filled with boredom and impatience or we can walk through them with a sense of purpose. As we come out on the other side, we can be bedraggled and barely holding ourselves together or we can come out ready to start fresh and new, embracing all that the future holds.
This temporary “pause” is our opportunity to reset our thinking so that we can ask ourselves the question, “What are the important things in life and am I doing them?” Maybe you are saying, “Yes, I want that sense of purpose. I want to come out invigorated for what lies ahead. And yes, I want to be doing what is important in my life. But where do I start?”
Let’s start at the beginning—-beginning each day with the Lord. I encourage you to find a place (in your home, in your office, or on the back porch) where you can sit quietly and have a meeting with God. And yes, He does want to meet with you.
In this meeting place, you could begin with this simple prayer:
Father, I commit this day to You
Cause my thoughts to agree with Your will—
So I know what to do.*
As you are sitting there, tell Him that you want to live with a sense of purpose, beginning with today. Tell Him what you are planning to do and then ask Him what He thinks about your plan. Then as you leave your meeting place, take Him with you. Talk with Him throughout your day and yield to Him for His answers.
You might wonder how all of this is going to give you a sense of purpose for your future. As you have this daily meeting with God and as you fellowship with Him throughout the day, you will find yourself right where you are supposed to be—doing what you were designed to do. Begin with the small things and you will find—-
