Day 15—-Really??

One day I was having a mental tug of war between what I knew I should do and the dread of doing it. I knew I should go to the gym and work out in the pool, but I spent the better part of the day arguing with myself about why I couldn’t. Finally, I dragged myself to the car all the while rehearsing my mental resistance. As I headed out of the subdivision, the contention going on in my brain subsided so that I could think the thoughts of God.*
Here’s what transpired:
Karol, tell me again why it is that you can’t go to the gym today.
- You are driving a Lexus SUV
- You have a gym membership for the year
- You have an Under Armour gym bag
- You have an H20 chlorine-resistant swimsuit that you paid dearly for
Ouch!! Humbling for sure!
It’s easy for us to make excuses for what we don’t want to do. But let’s stop and think for a moment how those excuses would sound if we said them out loud. They would sound ridiculous, right?
We have so many modern conveniences that our parents and grandparents never had. I don’t know about you but I have a vacuum cleaner in my utility closet that works just fine, a leaf blower in the garage that can be trusted to blow every speck out of my garage, and a computer in my office with all the bells and whistles. I also have a phone to call my family and friends which I love to do, but find myself thinking I should—rather than doing it.
We each have unique excuses that we pull out and use repeatedly. Think about the ones that you tend to use. I don’t know about you but I even get tired of hearing them!
But….
Today is a new day! Let’s listen to ourselves and when our excuses try to infiltrate our thoughts, let’s just do it
instead of using our brain cells to reason why we cannot.
