Day 18—Keeping It Simple

In January of every year, I ask the Lord for one word that He wants me to work on for the year. This year, the word “SIMPLICITY” came to mind. He knows me well because I am notorious for complicating things and making them harder than they are. When this mindset goes into operation, I feel overwhelmed at the size of the task and frustrated because I immediately think it is beyond my ability to be successful.
Thankfully, I believe that Proverbs 16:3 AMPC is the “key” to achieving success. His will is for us to succeed and like any well-meaning father, He is willing to give us His simple, straightforward instructions.
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will,
and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC)
Success comes from committing the day (the problem, the issue, the situation) to God and asking for His
thoughts. This prayer of commitment invites God to plant His thoughts into our brains so we can think them. Of course, we always have the freedom to reject His thoughts or ignore them, but in doing so, we block our success and make things harder for ourselves.
On Day 16 I told you about these words:
Father, I commit this _______ to You.
Cause my thoughts to agree with Your will---So I know what to do.
As I applied this to my stressful financial decision, God showed me what to do and within fifteen minutes everything was completed. I call that “simple” and “straightforward.”
Since then a friend called and asked me to pray for her. She had multiple concerns complicated with several serious needs and my heart went out to her. I wasn’t sure what to say so I just used these simple words. “Father, we commit these concerns to You. Help _____ to think Your thoughts so she knows what to do.”
Immediately, it was like a cloud of peace descended on both of us. I couldn’t think of another thing to pray because this prayer was already going into effect.
I don’t know about you, but I am committing this simple little prayer to memory and praying it many times throughout my day. I challenge you to do the same!!

When things feel overwhelming, peace has to be a choice. God offers us a peace that settles our hearts and shapes how we treat others. ‘ Peace on earth, goodwill to men ’ is a reminder to let that peace live in us—and move through us.
