Day 24—-Take The High Road

Are you getting tired of this virus? Do you feel worn out by what may seem like an endless way of life?
The truth is this set back is
going to come to an end, and if we are living responsibly, we can be happy that we are doing our part to ease the burden of the health care workers of our nation.
It’s easy during this time to say negative things in response to our circumstances. My devotions this morning said to “Be still…..” (Psalms 46:10 NLT). My response was, “Help me, Lord!”
It is not going to do us—or anyone else—any good if we speak how we feel.
The Bible addresses how we may be feeling about going through day after day of this quarantine/social-distancing season.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get way with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 The Message (MSG)
In the above promise, we see that there is a way to live “freely and lightly,” rather than confined and burdened. Our day can be filled with productive activity and expectation of good or we can have a day of frustration and boredom. (Refer to Days 9 and 17)
There is a low road and a high road that lies before us today, and we have the choice of which one to take. We can express our distaste for this temporary way of life and take the low road, or we can choose the high road of positivity, knowing that we will come out of this.
If we choose to “Be still…” and continue to submit our day (our thoughts, our feelings and our words) to God and ask for His, we won’t have to listen to ourselves complaining. Instead, we will enjoy keeping company with God on the high road. Living “freely and lightly” sounds pretty good to me!
Father, I commit my words to You today. Cause them to agree with Your will—
So I will know what to say.

Beginning the day with God puts us in a posture of surrender. We release our plans, seek His wisdom, and step into the peace that comes from trusting His direction. When things feel overwhelming, peace has to be a choice.
