Day 28—-Giving It Up!

What’s your plan for today? Plant those flowers, mow the lawn, make your weekly trip to the grocery store, play with the kids, work in your home office…
I don’t want my plans to swirl around in my head so I write them down on my daily planner. There—-out of mind and down on paper.
Then there’s our simple prayer:
Father, I commit this day to You.
Cause my thoughts to agree with Your will—
So I know what to do.
……and what not to do. We’ve now given God control of our day.
You might ask, “Isn’t God in control all the time?” I believe that He has all authority but doesn’t always have control. Take for example the teacher in the classroom. He or she has authority in that classroom but if the students won’t follow the directions of the teacher, He or she will not have control.
Let’s say that a student feels like standing on the top of his desk even though he knows it is wrong. When he jumps off and gets hurt, we can hardly say that the teacher is in control. There will only be peace and order if all the students respect the teacher and his rules.
This is why it is so important to respect God by submitting our plans to Him at the beginning of the day. This one simple act of commitment puts us in the position to experience the peace and order that comes when our thoughts become agreeable to His will.
We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

God loves to make our plans easier by setting them in order. I especially love when the thought occurs to me, “Don’t do that.”
I also love when new ideas come to mind. Life becomes an adventure when we experience new ways of doing things. This is a great way to move forward. Stagnancy can result in boredom, and boredom can be the breeding ground for discouragement—especially in a time like this.
God has a wealth of amazing ideas and plans ready and waiting for those who are willing to make room for Him throughout the day—room in our work and room in our play. And like any well-meaning father, He loves to bless—and even surprise—His children.
