EXERCISING OUR FAITH
We hear a lot of talk about exercise at this time of the year. The gyms are full as we begin a new year. Everyone wants to get back in shape after the holidays.
Two months ago, I ran across a blogger that I am really enjoying. She puts daily videos on YouTube to share what she has learned to be successful in keeping her home in order. As I watch her, I am learning that I need to develop some new habits so that I can be successful like her. (By the way guys, occasionally her husband joins her to add his support. He also says that His garage never looked better!)
I determined what new habits I wanted to work on and I am surprised how mindful I have to be. It’s too easy to slip back into the old ways. I have to say things to myself like, “Karol, no dishes set in the sink,” and “the island must be clear at all times.” I am hoping that when I follow my own guidelines, it will become a habit that comes naturally.
Now, let’s take this concept over to developing the habit of committing our plans (our decisions, our situations, our problems) to God and asking for His thoughts so that we can be successful. When I first began to apply Proverbs 16:3 (see below), I had to practice doing it over and over again. I wish I could say that it has become a habit that comes naturally but all too often I find myself in the middle of a frustrating situation before I remember to stop and say, “Okay, I’m stuck in this situation. I commit it to You, God. Help me to think like You think, so I know what to do.” God doesn’t seem to mind when we call upon Him because He loves us and is delighted to help us at any time. How do I know? Because He is always right there waiting in the wings for me to turn to Him.
As we exercise our spiritual muscles by applying our foundational scripture, we will get better and better at it. I encourage you to do what it takes to condition yourself to develop this wonderful habit. Not only will you “be established and succeed,” but you will find yourself being grateful for God’s help. So many times I hear myself say, “Thank You, God for helping me!” or “Thank You, God for working this out for me.”
Let’s make 2022 the most successful year we have ever had! With God’s help, we can do it!!
Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him;
He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will,
and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC)
