As we begin a new week, let’s commit the care of our bodies to God and ask Him to help us to make wise choices. The Bible says—
Roll your works upon the Lord
[commit and trust them wholly to Him;
He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will,
and] so shall your plans
be established and succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC)
We want our plans to succeed in every area, but especially in the area of taking care of this gift—our body—that God has loaned to us. We’ve tried to do it by ourselves and it’s worked for a while, so this time let’s invite God to guide our thoughts so we can develop a successful lifestyle. Here’s our simple commitment prayer:
Father, I commit this week to You.
Cause my thoughts to agree with Your will—
So I will know what to do.
This powerful little prayer will help us to overcome the times when we say things like, “I am going to eat whatever I want because Thanksgiving is coming.”
Or “I’ll wait until after the new year to begin an exercise program.”
As we invite God to help us choose to “sow” to the Spirit, we will not only enjoy the benefits of those choices, but we’ll also enjoy our partnership with our faithful God.
The minute I began this Blog Challenge, I started to plan what I was going to eat on Thanksgiving Day. Years ago I learned a truth that keeps coming back to me. "The first few bites taste the best—the rest is just chewing.” Those first few bites are yummy so we keep eating in hopes of repeating that wonderful taste, only to end up wishing we hadn’t.
From now until Thanksgiving, let’s purpose to commit each day to God and ask for His help. He’s waiting to guide us so that we can make successful decisions. Then when life gets crazy all around us, we can have that inner peace of having done the right thing. I like to say, “It’s a gift you give yourself!”

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone. Sometimes we need to refresh the screen of our hearts to see clearly again. When we lay down our own plans and fully trust God, our vision begins to change.
