This morning in my devotional time, I ran across these words:
So don’t let anyone lead you astray with all sorts of novel and exotic teachings.
It is more beautiful to feast on grace
and be inwardly strengthened than to be obsessed with dietary rules
which in themselves have no lasting benefit.
Hebrews 13:9 (TPT)
The “dietary rules” are what we followed on the last diet we went on—you know the one—the diet that worked beautifully for a while only to end with us slipping back into our old ways of eating. In this verse, God is instructing us to “feast on grace and be inwardly
strengthened.” That grace comes to us as we allow Him into our plans.
We are learning to commit our choices to God and asking Him to cause our thoughts to line up with what He knows is right for each one of us. (Proverbs 16:3 AMPC)
When we purchased our last car, in the glove compartment was an owner’s manual with instructions for the make and model of car we purchased. As we educate ourselves on the information in the manual, we learn how to operate our car at peak proficiency.
There are tons of “dietary rules” out there. If we choose one, they may work for a time, but unless we allow God’s grace to work on the inside of us, we will more than likely end up where we started—only this time with a few additional pounds of disappointment.
God designed each of us to be a unique “make and model.” (Psalms 139: 13-15) He knows our bodies inside and out. What works for you may not work for me. So let’s not try to squeeze ourselves into a set of dietary rules. Instead, let’s use the dietary information as a resource.
So where do we begin? It’s not wrong to follow a certain dietary eating plan, but instead of working it, God wants us to ask Him if we are on the right track. Each day we can pray something like this—
Father, I commit my eating/exercise plans to You.
Cause my thoughts to agree with Your will—
So I know what to do.
…just for today.
Now as you begin to work your plan, be open to God giving you new thoughts and ideas because…..He knows you best and wants your success!
NOTE: Keep making your list of positive changes—and don’t forget to thank God for His help!

Beginning the day with God puts us in a posture of surrender. We release our plans, seek His wisdom, and step into the peace that comes from trusting His direction. When things feel overwhelming, peace has to be a choice. God offers us a peace that settles our hearts and shapes how we treat others. ‘ Peace on earth, goodwill to men ’ is a reminder to let that peace live in us—and move through us.
