FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD
I am getting ready to teach a five-week class at my church called Journey To A Friendship With God. As I was preparing, this song began running through my thoughts. Does anyone remember this?
I AM A FRIEND OF GOD
Who am I that you are mindful of me
That you hear me, when I call
Is it true that you are thinking of me
How you love me, it's amazing (Who am I Lord)
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
He calls me friend
God Almighty
Lord of Glory
You have called me friend
[Note: You can listen to this by searching,
“I Am A Friend Of God” Philips, Craig, and Dean, on YouTube. I must warn you, however, this catchy little song might get caught in your thoughts. Actually, I
want it caught in mine because it’s such a good reminder!]
The Bible substantiates that we can be friends with God. Jesus is talking to His followers here and says —
I no longer call you slaves,
because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves.
Now you are My friends, since I have told you
everything the Father told Me.
John 15:15 (NLT)
We can go to God and ask Him any question. As we yield to Him, His Holy Spirit will bring the answer into our thoughts. I am always overjoyed when that happens because it’s a thought I did not think.
I have mentioned this in a previous blog post, but it’s worth repeating. “God isn’t keeping (the answer) from us; He’s keeping it for us.”
Let’s see what the Bible has to say about that:
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing:
but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.
Proverbs 25:2 (KJV)
Or how about this one?
The secret things belong unto the Lord our God:
but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our
children for ever, that we may do all the word of this law.
Deuteronomy 29:29 (KJV)
Or this?
So then, let us [apostles] be looked upon as
ministering servants of Christ and stewards (trustees)
of the mysteries (the secret purposes) of God.
I Corinthians 4:1 (AMPC)
I think God is saying, “Come! Ask Me your questions and I will give you instructions so you can “be established and succeed.” I think He would rather come to Him before we charge ahead and make a mess that He has to help us clean up. Been there — done that!
So what question is presently in the forefront of your mind? I challenge you to write it on today’s page in your journal. Then pray the “30-Second Prayer.”
Father, I commit this question to You.
Cause me to think the way You think—
So I know what to do.
(Based on Proverbs 16:3 AMPC)
I’d love to hear the thoughts you did not think! You can email me by clicking on this link.
NOTE: Also, if you would like to attend the five-session class at Lord of Hosts Church here in Omaha, Nebraska, let me know and I will be glad to sign you up when registration opens. The first class is Tuesday, May 24th from 7:00-8:15 pm. And think about bringing a friend!
