Today I want to share a very informative story with you from Genesis 24 in your Bible. This story illustrates how to achieve Biblical success the way God intends.
Abraham, nearing the time of his death, called for his head servant. He instructed the servant to go to his homeland to find a wife for his son. He was adamant that Issac's wife could not be from Canaan, where they presently lived.
- The servant took ten camels and arrived at the well near Nahor where Abraham’s relatives lived. It was the time of day when the women came to fill their water jars.
- There he prayed, “O Lord, God of my master, Abraham…Please give me success today…”
- Before he finished praying, Rebekah approached the well to fill her jar.
- The servant asked her for a little water. She quickly responded, also offering to water his camels.
- The servant watched Rebekah in silence. “Is this the woman who was to marry Issac?"
- He proceeded to ask her who she was and if her father had room for him to stay overnight. She responded that there was plenty of room and provisions for him and his camels.
- The servant bowed to praise God for leading him to Rebekah.
The above is only part of the story. I encourage you to go Genesis 24 and read the whole account. In chapter three of my book, The 30-Second Prayer That Changes Everything, I explain how to apply this story to our
daily choices.
Successful decisions begin with a simple prayer of commitment, much like the prayer that Abraham’s servant prayed. This story could have been filled with complications leading to delays and frustrations, and the servant could have returned home without successfully completing his mission.
We have been learning to commit our decisions to God by praying something like this: "Father, here is what I need to do…….what do You think? Am I on the right track? Please give me direction and clarification.” And I always add, "Please keep me from making a mistake!"

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone.
