Proverbs 16:3 (AMPC) says that if we sincerely commit our plans (our day, our decisions, or our situation) to God and sincerely ask Him to change our thoughts to align with His, we will “be established and succeed.” When we do our part and ask Him to help us, we activate this powerful principle from His Word.
The first of January is when it seems that the whole world goes on their “New Year’s Diet.” We know that a diet is a set of rules that we follow for a while. When we slack off, however, we slide backward. So what do we do? We try it again…and again….and again....
Instead, let’s take God’s principle “into the lab” and apply it by committing our plans to Him and pray, “Father, this is what I plan to do. What do you think?”
Several years ago, I began doing this. I presented my plans to God and asked for His thoughts. Then I proceeded in what I thought was right, only to have new ideas interjected into my thoughts throughout my day. These new thoughts were from God and guided me to be successful in what I was doing.
Day after day, I operated in this principle. It became a joy to partner with God throughout the day. The more I repeated this, the more success I experienced—and the more joy resulted. It was so good to know that God cared enough to help me.
Here’s what the Bible says about that—
The Lord will work out His plans for my life -
for Your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Psalm 138:8 (NLT)

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone. Sometimes we need to refresh the screen of our hearts to see clearly again. When we lay down our own plans and fully trust God, our vision begins to change. Beginning the day with God puts us in a posture of surrender. We release our plans, seek His wisdom, and step into the peace that comes from trusting His direction.
