MEETING

Last week we learned that we can have “God’s Undivided Attention.” Click here. The God who created the entire universe and holds it together wants to give us
His full attention. Quite amazing!
So now let’s talk about the best way to interact with God? It’s very simple. Plan to have a meeting with Him at the beginning of your day. It would look like a meeting you would have with a close friend. Prepare a pleasant place in your home where you will not be interrupted.
Years ago when I first began to take this seriously, my “meeting place” was my sunroom before anyone else was up. Since those early days, I have moved into a different house, and I meet with God in the living room in my comfy chair — but still in the quiet early morning hours of the day.
Perhaps the only quiet place is in your truck, in the parking lot of your workplace, twenty minutes before you go in. It doesn’t matter to God where you hold this meeting with Him because He is not as “religious” about these things as we are. He’s willing to give us His “undivided attention” wherever and whenever we consistently come to Him with a submitted heart. That’s because He wants a relationship
with us — like two good friends getting together. This “Friend” loves us more than we can imagine and knows us better than we know ourselves. He has a good plan for each of our days and longs to share those plans with us.
So let’s begin with our simple prayer:
Father, I commit ___ (this day/my plans/my ideas) to You.
Cause me to think the way You think—
So I know what to do!
(Based on Proverbs 16:3 AMPC)
Then begin to talk about your plans with Him. Invite Him
to walk with you throughout the day and order your thoughts and steps to be in alignment with His will. Ask Him
to change your thoughts if you are heading in the wrong direction. Tell Him
that You are willing to be flexible and give up any of your ideas if they are the wrong ones.
As you read your Bible, you will increase in sensitivity to the will of God. If you are new at Bible reading, I would encourage you to use a devotional that has scripture references for each day. Look up the scriptures in your Bible and if you have time, read the whole chapter where your verse is found. [The free Bible app on your phone has many reading plans to get you started.]
Be sure to make note of the verses that personally speak
to you. I like to keep a written journal so I can look back over the week to see how God was instructing me. In doing so it confirms to me that God is real and He cares about what I bring to Him.
The more you interact with God, the more He will interact with you so don’t delay in making Him a part of your day!

If we truly want more of God in our lives, we have to be willing to make room for Him. And that’s not always easy. But we’re not expected to do it alone. Sometimes we need to refresh the screen of our hearts to see clearly again. When we lay down our own plans and fully trust God, our vision begins to change. Beginning the day with God puts us in a posture of surrender. We release our plans, seek His wisdom, and step into the peace that comes from trusting His direction.
